Class Action Lawsuit
This case study examines how Maryman performed complex data analysis over hundreds of paper records to support a class action lawsuit.
Project Name
Class Action Lawsuit
Our Role
Data Analytics and Data Visualization Specialists
Project Background
A group of law firms were plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit against a group of companies. The allegation included the companies being involved in anti-competitive behavior.
Project Tasks
We were given hundreds of Call Detail Records containing millions of data points that needed to be classified, deduplicated and organized for the attorneys to review and Maryman to run reports. These queries and reports would support their efforts during the depositions of the individuals at the defendant companies as well as at trial.
Project Outcomes
- We were able to create a singular database to house all the disparate data sets into a normalized form for central querying.
- We were able to perform optical-character recognition over the paper records to ingest into the database.
- We were able to classify the communications and perform queries including time-correlation to support the allegations.
- We provided data visualization to show the increases in communication volume relative to key dates for the lawsuit
Conclusion
Maryman provides litigation support for a variety of investigative tasks, including data analytics and visualization of disparate datasets.
