Client / Case Background

A commercial surety bond agency in the financial services sector. The client had previously engaged Maryman to develop an Incident Response (IR) Plan. Maryman also conducted annual Incident Response tabletop exercises to test and improve preparedness.

Challenge and Approach

The client identified a potential cybersecurity incident after an employee was suspected of clicking a suspicious link. The organization needed to quickly determine whether a compromise had occurred and execute an effective response. Maryman’s prior planning and training were put into practice during a real-world event.

The client activated its Incident Response Plan immediately after detecting the potential threat. Affected systems were isolated in accordance with established response procedures. The client followed processes practiced during prior tabletop exercises.

Key Findings

Outcome and Impact

The client was able to respond quickly and methodically to a potential cybersecurity incident. The Incident Response Plan and tabletop exercises improved organizational readiness and reduced uncertainty during the event. The engagement demonstrated the value of proactive planning, testing, and incident response training, even when an event does not result in a confirmed breach.
