Polygraph Test Administration & Analysis Services

Polygraph tests are used to assist the polygraph examiner in determining the truth of statements made by the examinee by observing certain physiological responses that are technologically measured. The Employee Polygraph Protection Act of 1988 (EPPA) was enacted to establish guidelines for polygraph testing and imposed restrictions on most private employers. Pre-employment tests of applicants is generally restricted. However, if you experience a specific business loss, you may be able to conduct polygraph tests on your employees, but these tests fall under the guidelines of EPPA.

A polygraph examination measures and records multiple physiological indicators simultaneously — including respiratory rate, cardiovascular activity, and electrodermal response — while the examinee is asked a structured series of questions. These physiological responses are then analyzed by a trained polygraph examiner to assess the credibility of the examinee’s statements. When administered and interpreted by a qualified professional, polygraph testing can be a powerful tool in narrowing the scope of an investigation and guiding subsequent forensic work.

Polygraph Administration & Analysis

How Polygraph Testing Supports Investigations

Polygraph Administration & Analysis is most effective when used as part of a broader investigative strategy. At Maryman, our polygraph services are often deployed alongside digital forensic investigations to corroborate or challenge statements made by employees, contractors, or other individuals connected to a matter. This integrated approach allows our clients and their legal counsel to build a more complete and reliable picture of events.

Common scenarios where polygraph testing may be appropriate include internal theft investigations, data breach inquiries, workplace misconduct matters, and cases involving suspected fraud or misrepresentation. When a specific and documented business loss has occurred, EPPA guidelines may permit the testing of employees who had access to the relevant assets or information. Our examiners are thoroughly versed in EPPA compliance requirements and will advise clients on the proper procedures to follow before, during, and after the examination to ensure all results remain admissible and legally defensible.

Qualified Polygraph Examiners

The Maryman team includes experienced, certified polygraph examiners who have conducted examinations across a wide range of civil, criminal, and corporate matters. All examinations are conducted in a controlled, professional environment with strict adherence to established examination protocols. Following the examination, our examiners provide a comprehensive written report detailing the methodology used, the physiological data recorded, and the examiner’s findings — documentation that can be used to support litigation, internal HR proceedings, or further forensic investigation.
